My research focuses on the nature and value of reformulating: why do inquirers spend so much time finding alternative ways to solve problems they already know how to solve? Various case studies in science and math motivate this question. Relatedly, I aim to vindicate modally-laden concepts used in science, such as explanation, laws of nature, and fundamentality. To the surprise of many, I presuppose minimal ontological commitments, combining ideas from empiricism, meta-ethical expressivism, and pragmatism.

I am an assistant professor at Syracuse University. Go ‘cuse!!!!!!! Before that, I was a postdoc at MIT. My PhD is from the University of Michigan, where I also completed a Masters in math and some graduate courses in physics.
